Smirking President now makes faces at America on national television

George W. Bush Esq

c/o Playroom

White Fraternity House

Washington, America

Mr. President:

I saw you making faces at us today on C-SPAN.

A lot of us Americans who have lived here longer than you have are worried that you have really screwed the pooch in Iraq, and that you are contemplating doing the same in Iran, and in our name. As evidence of your intentions, we observe the daily confrontational and threatening messages issued by your minions around the world, not to mention the fact that you have taken a number of overt steps in the furtherance of an apparent attack on Iran. For example, you are assembling in the Persian Gulf region the most powerful armada in the history of the world.

I, for one, find your smirking about such topics to be infantile and beneath your station, and a disgrace to the Presidency. Now I see that you are mocking me and others who have such concerns, by making faces on national television. This is really over the line.

Could you please just resign and take your vice president with you, go and have fun at bars and Texas BBQ’s and leave the world alone? I would appreciate it.

Signed,

Your father

McCain for President of Del Boca Vista, Phase 2: To give keynote address to creationists

link

Discovery Institute is pleased to co-present with CityClub of Seattle and the Seattle World Affairs Council a luncheon featuring U.S. Senator John McCain.

While you’re at the Discovery Institute site, you might want to truncate the URL and go to the page where you can read such genius works as “Beware of Darwin Day,” and “Darwin’s Dangerous Idea.” These should put you on the alert to how stupid Darwin really was.

Hopefully Senator McCain will include these dangers in his talk, and let us know how he, as president of Del Boca Vista, Phase 2, would protect the residents of DBVP2 from Darwin.  I hope he gets some rest; wouldn’t want him to fall asleep during his own talk. Not sure Rev. or Dr. or whatever James Dobson will be there…he may be busy praying to God that he doesn’t get stuck with McCain.

Tuesdays at the Rapture

Things at the Rapture Index are just a tiny bit better, (at 160) this week:

Category 37: Earthquakes: The lack of activity has downgraded this category to a 4.

Now, I say “better,” but I think some folks are rooting for the Rapture. Am I wrong? I guess I really have very little understanding of rapture science, but I am willing to learn. To wit: Category of the Week:

39. Civil Rights

To have a dictator, there must be a shortage of civil rights, and of
human rights. The time a people least expect their losing their freedom
is when they are willingly giving it up.

Now, does that make sense? Seriously, people, how am I gonna learn about the rapture when the descriptive prose is so fucked up? whoops, I mean, fouled up. I mean, is this like the assembly directions for my exercise bike? Can’t we have native English speakers write this stuff? Anyway, I’ll keep at it….cause what could possibly be more important than the Rapture, after all? I mean, it’s my immortal soul….

I know many of you tune in here every week to discover whether or not liberalism and Satanic attacks on farm animals have changed in any material way. I can report that these two categories remain stable, since Democrats are still in control of the US Congress, and the poor English farm animals have seen no letup in the despicable assaults.

UPDATED:Iraqi refugee crisis: compassionate (?) Bush won’t take em

2 million Iraqi refugees…..
link

Syria, the last Arab country welcoming large numbers of Iraqi refugees, is all but shutting down its border. The strangely unannounced decision leaves the 40,000 Iraqis who escape their war-torn country each month with almost no place to go.

“It’s not fair that the burden is not being shared effectively. A very limited number of countries is paying a very heavy price,” Antonio Guterres, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, said on a recent tour of the Mideast.

DEPORTING AN OPTION?

The new rules also strike fear of deportation into the 1 million Iraqis already in Syria. Iraqis there say they now receive only a 15-day permit to stay when they enter, after which they must apply for a three-month permit that can be renewed only once. After six months, any Iraqi not a student or without a job or business must leave Syria for at least 30 days before being allowed back in.

THE LAST RESORT

Jordan and Egypt, with 700,000 and 130,000 Iraqi refugees respectively, have said they could take no more.

Republican Senator Hagel:

“There is general agreement that around two million Iraqis have left that country, a third of the doctors at least, have left that country,” said Hagel. “And we could go through an entire agenda, inventory of demographics on this. But we also have to factor in, as you do, the realities of the security issue in Baghdad and other areas, in which we now know that ethnic cleansing is occurring.”

US President and former leader of the free world, that compassionate conservative, defender of white America and denier of reality in Iraq, George W. Bush, is taking 500 a year, in spite of the fact that he was the one responsible for this huge mess….doesn’t want to admit that he is destroying the country. But in reality, last year, only 202 were allowed in. So, Bush is forming a task force, “gonna look into it…heh, heh…”

Yes, I do agree with the Dixie Chicks.

Vietnam….anybody remember that? We took A MILLION refugees… just another one of the things you have to think about when you commit American forces to war. There must be a way that the Congress can change things, and admit more of these poor people.

UPDATE: Reuters has two pieces on Iraqi children who turn to begging and street crime:

“The economic situation of the Iraqis is decreasing month after month. Lots of families are using their children to get additional income, which they can get through begging. There are also families who send their children to work,” Cedric Turlan, information officer for the NCCI, said.

“In addition, with the increasing number of widows and orphans, and the terrible [security] situation, the families’ needs have increased as has the number of street children. “Of course, when children are not going to school anymore, there is nothing you can do to keep them off the streets. When children are in school, they are not in the street and teachers and educators can also have an impact on families,” Turlan added.

Gee, those 800 schools we painted…going to waste….better get Michele Malkin on the phone…

UPDATE:

The Bush administration plans to allow about 7,000 Iraqi refugees to settle in the United States over the next year, a huge expansion at a time of mounting international pressure to help millions who have fled their homes in the nearly four-year-old war.The United States has allowed only 463 Iraq refugees into the country since the war began in March 2003, even though some 3.8 million have been uprooted. A senior State Department official described the expanded program on condition of anonymity ahead of a formal announcement later Wednesday.

The administration also plans to pledge $18 million for a worldwide resettlement and relief program. The United Nations has asked for $60 million from nations around the world.

Less than one half of one percent of the refugees that we have created. A talking point. Almost a slap in the face…a denial of our responsibility.

Nasser Judeh said 7,000 is still a small number compared to the 700,000 Iraqi refugees Jordan has had to accommodate.

“7,000 Iraqi refugees is just 1 percent of the number we have,” Judeh said.

But that’s characteristic of George Bush. And, by the way, I’ll believe it when I see it. My bet: maybe 500 get in this year. Who wants to bet?

UPDATED: American Birkebeiner: Friday noon: race is on.

Cable WI, Feb 24. Cross country ski race. Heard of it?
Birkie 2007: The Race Is ON
23K Competitive Race for Elites & Non-Competitive for Other Skiers

HAYWARD, Wis., Feb. 23, 2007 – Birkie 2007 will be a 23-kilometer competitive race for the top 200 elite men and 50 elite women and an untimed, non-competitive, ‘open-track’ event for the rest of field.

The timed race for elite Birkie skiers will launch at 10:20 a.m. at the Cable Union Airport Start Line and finish at Highway OO in Seeley with prize money awarded to the top 6 men and women.

The untimed, non-competitive, ‘open-track’ event for remaining Birkie, Kortelopet and Prince Haakon skiers will start at Cable Union Airport between 10:45 – 11:45 a.m.

An ‘open-track’ event is new to the American Birkebeiner but is common in European cross country ski races. In the Birkie ‘open track’ event, skiers can leave the start line at any time within a half-hour window for specified waves as follows:

Waves 1-3 – 10:45 a.m.
Waves 4-6 – 11:15 a.m.
Waves 7-10 and Prince Haakon skiers- 11:45 a.m.

“Skiers can show up with their friends in this window and leave together,” said Ned Zuelsdorff, Executive Director for the American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation. “This is the best option given the course conditions. We think the course will hold up to a small number of competitive racers and it is adequate for thousands of skiers participating in a low-key, non-competitive, ‘open-track’ event. We will be advising caution on some downhills with the use of Ski Patrol members.”

In the ‘open-track’, non-competitive event, skiers will wear a transponder timing chip to confirm completion of their race, but no awards will be given. Credit will be given for completing the Birkie, Kortelopet and Prince Haakon. The non-competitive event will not affect wave placement, and future seeding will be based on Birkebeiner and Kortelopet times from 2004-2006.

Transponder timing chips will be handed out at Telemark Lodge on Saturday beginning at 6 a.m. Bussing to Telemark Lodge will begin at 6 a.m.

Skiers can register for Birkie 2007 through 8 p.m. this evening at the Red Arrow Room at Telemark Lodge.

Thursday evening; the weather forecast here does not predict snow for Friday:

What is the forecast?

40% chance of snow on Friday with 70% chance of additional snowfall predicted after from birkie.com:

What is the course like?

Current conditions are poor. Wednesday’s 52-degree temps, sunshine and rain created bare spots. The trail is hard-packed with icy spots.
We need 3” of new snow to have a safe course and race.
A final race decision will be announced on Friday at 9 p.m. in the lobby at Telemark Lodge and posted on the Birkie website and sent to all skiers and media.

good luck you cheeseheads.

Birkie Shortened to Highway OO

HAYWARD, Wis., Feb. 21, 2007 – American Birkebeiner Ski Foundation officials today determined that the American Birkebeiner 51 kilometer cross country ski race will be shortened to a 23 kilometer race with a finish at Highway OO in Seeley.

“52-degree temps and sunshine today damaged the existing base and opened fields beyond repair,” said Bill Pierce, President of the ABSF Board of Directors. “We determined it would be a better quality race to finish at OO.”

Ned Zuelsdorff, Executive Director of the ABSF, said there is a strong possibility that, if conditions do not change, there will be no classic tracks. He said other events will go on as scheduled.

Snow is being dumped onto Main Street for tomorrow’s Sons of Norway/Swiss Miss Barnebirkie, which starts on Lake Hayward and finishes on Main Street and Second. The Salomon Elite Sprints and Sunflour Citizen Sprints will also be held on Main Street on Thursday and Friday, respectively. The Prince Haakon 12K will take place at Telemark at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Worldloppet Passports will be satisfied with the 23 kilometer Birkie.

On a positive note, no armadillos have yet been sighted in Wisconsin.
The Birkie site says:

That’s good news to the 9,000 skiers, 2,000 volunteers, 15,000 spectators and organizers of the 34th annual event that begins Thursday, Feb. 22 and culminates with the 51-kilometer Subaru American Birkebeiner and 23-kilometer Kortelopet sponsored by the State Bank of Drummond and Cable Chamber of Commerce on Saturday, Feb. 24.

Registrations for the largest cross country ski race in North America are on pace with last year’s numbers (the fifth largest race in Birkie history).

“As of February 12, we have a total of 6,060 skiers registered for the 51K Subaru American Birkebeiner and 23K Kortelopet sponsored by State Bank of Drummond and Cable Chamber of Commerce,” Zuelsdorff said.

Disturbing: on 2/14 it appears that they have scrubbed the link to trail reports from individuals; these reports have not been very encouraging. It really sounds like they are gritting their teeth and trying to hide the bad news. Further, weather reports continue to indicate a significant thaw starting the Tuesday before the race. See this.
